Are you new in the Alicante and looking for things to do during the Christmas period?

The city of Alicante offers a huge variety of activities and events to help make this time of year unforgettable: from Santa to sports to shopping – here are some of my favourites!

Santa’s Grotto.

Children can visit Santa’s Grotto to meet Father Christmas and ask for presents. Next to the Grotto you’ll find the Wishing Well where kids can drop off letters to Santa. Whilst you and your children wait in line for the Grotto you’ll be amused (and surprised!) by various entertainers

Nadalneu, Nadalge and Nadalpac.

Here, set against the beautiful backdrop of the magnificent Town Hall building, you’ll find a fantastic ice ring for everyone to enjoy. Also, at Plaza de la Montaneta you can find a specially constructed, artificial mountain with slopes and sleighs!

Shopping.

From fashion to unique products, the independent shops of Alicante are the best place to buy presents for your family or yourself. Interestingly, this area has a great tradition of toy making and toys produced in the Alicante region are exported all around the world. Oh, and don’t forget typical regional products such as turron and wine which make this the best and yummiest time of the year!

The Three Wise Men.

In Alicante, as in the rest of Spain, Christmas doesn’t end on Boxing Day but goes on until January the 6^th. That’s because Spanish kids are lucky – they get a second drop of presents from the Three Wise Men on this date! The night before is also a big date for the young ones as they fill the streets with their parents and friends to welcome the wise men. First they give letters for the Wise Men to the ‘Royal Mailmen’ and then they join big street parades to see the Wise Men and hear them give a speech.

Sports.

There are two traditional races during the Christmas period, the Travesía de Navidad in Playa del Postiguet on December 17^th and the classic San Silvestre race that passes through the city centre on December 29^th.

New Years Eve.

There are street parties organised throughout the city with the celebration at Plaza del Ayuntamiento being the main one  at 23:00. There will be free grapes for everyone (another Spanish Christmas tradition) and music and partying until 03.00 am.

Finally, don’t forget December 1^st, the official switch on of the Christmas lights at Plaza del Ayuntamiento by the Mayor of Alicante.

NAVIDAD EN ALICANTE

¿Eres nuevo en Alicante y buscas cosas que hacer durante el periodo de navidad?

La ciudad de Alicante te ofrece una enorme variedad de actividades  y eventos que harán de estas fechas un momento inolvidable. De Papá Noel a las compras navideñas, aquí hay algunas de mis favoritas.

La Casa de Papá Noel.

Los niños pueden visitar la casa de Papá Noel y pedirle regalos. Al lado de la casa puedes encontrar el Pozo de los Deseos donde los niños pueden dejar sus cartas para Papá Noel. Además, mientras hacéis cola os podréis entretener con los diversos espectáculos organizados para el evento.

Nadalneu, Nadalge y Nadalpac.

Aquí encontraréis una fantástica pista de hielo para el disfrute de todos, y con el precioso edificio del ayuntamiento como fondo. También podréis encontrar en la Plaza de la Montañeta una montaña artificial especialmente construida para deslizarse en trineo.

Compras.

Ropa, moda, productos únicos… las tiendas de Alicante ofrecen la mejor opción para comprar regalos para ti y tu familia. Esta zona tiene una gran tradición de fabricación de juguetes y muchos son exportados alrededor del mundo. ¡Ah! No olvidéis los productos típicos de la región tales como el turron y los vinos que convertirán la navidad en la época más sabrosa del año.

Belenes.

Otra gran tradición navideña en España para el disfrute de pequeños y mayores. Los más tradicionales se pueden encontrar en:

Los Reyes Magos.

En Alicante, como en el resto de España, la navidad no termina el uno de enero sino que continúa hasta el seis de enero. Por esto los niños españoles tienen mucha suerte y reciben un segundo lote de regalos de parte de los Reyes Magos. La noche antes es una gran fecha para los pequeños al salir a las calles a recibir a los Reyes. Primero les dan sus cartas de deseos a los Pajes Reales y después se unen a las cabalgatas para ver a los Reyes y escuchar su discurso.

Deportes.

Durante la navidad hay dos carreras clásicas, la Travesía de Navidad en la Playa del Postiguet el diecisiete de diciembre y la tradicional carrera de San Silvestre, que transcurre a través de las calles del centro de Alicante el veintinueve de diciembre.

Nochevieja.

Se organizan fiestas en las calles de Alicante, siendo la de la Plaza del ayuntamiento a las 23.00 la principal y más importante. Hay uvas para todo el mundo (otra gran tradición española), música y fiesta hasta las 03:00.

Finalmente, no olvides la fecha del uno de diciembre, es la inauguración oficial del alumbrado de navidad en la Plaza del Ayuntamiento, presidida por el alcalde de Alicante.
